Margaret F. (Schuerman) Kuznik

1925 - 2018 Notice Condolences
Margaret F. (Schuerman) Kuznik Notice
Margaret F. (Schuerman) Kuznik 1925 - 2018 Vacaville Margaret F. Kuznik, a gentle and reserved woman, with a wonderful sense of humor, passed on July 1, in Vacaville at age 93. Margaret and her husband Robert were inseparable during their 72-year marriage. Even when Margaret moved to memory care this year, Robert was at her side daily sharing meals and comfort. When asked the secret to a happy marriage in a 2001 Parish newsletter feature article, Margaret responded, "Doing things together. Actually, we do most everything together. When one of us has a project we can always rely on each other for help". Robert could depend upon Margaret to take care of almost everything within the walls of their home. However, as the complications of Parkinson's disease took away her independence, Margaret found Robert by her side to care for her until the end. Margaret was born Jan. 3, 1925, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Theodore and Frieda (Moessner). Theodore owned and operated the Snap Shot Shoppe, a photo finishing business. Frieda was a seamstress and worked at a dry goods store. Margaret married Robert Kuznik on June 17, 1946, in Springfield, IL. June 17 held special significance for Margaret because that was also the date of marriage of her parents (1913, Decatur, IL), and her paternal grandparents, Ludwig and Frieda Schuerman (1880, Cologne, Germany). A resident of Vacaville for 27 years, family, church and faith were an important part of Margaret's life. Margaret will be forever remembered by her husband, Robert; her four children, Robert Jr. (Joyce), Joan, Thomas (Jean), and Douglas (Kathy); six grandchildren, Brian, Cindy, Kyle, Andrew, Jennifer, and Stephanie; seven great grandchildren, Tevin, Carter, Mira, Josie, Riley, Mia, and Lucas, and an eighth great grandchild expected in November. Margaret is also survived by her sister, Ruth Reiners (age 99) of Albuquerque, NM, and her half-brother, Leroy of Springfield, IL. Four brothers, Carl, George, Bernard, and Leonard Schuerman, and one sister, Eleanor (Mother Theodore, OSU) Schuerman, preceded Mrs. Kuznik in death. Margaret was ever attentive in remembering the birthdays, anniversaries and special events in the lives of the people close to her. She lived by the adage of putting others first and especially relished spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She found relaxation and mental activity with puzzles and computer games. Margaret lived with the challenges of Parkinson's disease for several years. Margaret's mother died of complications at Margaret's birth. Margaret's first five months were spent in the hospital nursery until being taken in by her paternal grandparents. At age nine she moved to the residence of her father and stepmother, Anna (Reiser). Margaret was a 1942 graduate of Ursuline Academy, Springfield, and a 1946 graduate of St. John's Hospital and Nursing Academy, Springfield, IL where she was trained by the Sisters of St. Francis in caring and patient-centered values. Margaret was granted her Registered Nurse Certificate in 1946. After graduation she was employed as a night duty nurse at St. John's Hospital, Springfield. Upon moving to Vallejo with Robert in 1951, Margaret was employed as an industrial nurse at C&H Sugar, Industrial RN at Benicia Arsenal, an RN at American Smelting & Refinery, an RN at Vallejo General Hospital, surgical nurse at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Vallejo, intensive care nurse at Broadway Hospital, Vallejo and public health and clinic nurse for Solano County Health Department where she retired in 1987. Margaret was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where she took pride in hand-making banners for the church sanctuary and weekly laundering altar vestments. Before moving to Vacaville, Margaret was a 39 year member of St. Basil's Catholic Church in Vallejo. A visitation and Rosary will be held on Thursday, July 12, at 7 p.m., at Oakmont Funeral Home, 180 E. Monte Vista Ave., Vacaville. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 13, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1791 Marshall Rd., Vacaville. A private burial will take place at All Souls Cemetery, Vallejo. In lieu of flowers, a tribute gift may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church or to at https://www.michaeljfox.org/get-involved/donation2.php?pg=tribute&navid=tribute-gift.
