Sept. 5, 1944 - May 8, 2018 Vallejo Rocco Messina passed away May 8, after a long illness. Born Sept. 5, 1944, in Palmi, Italy, he worked as a mechanic and also served in the Italian military. Rocco immigrated to the United States in 1965, joining his parents and brother. Teresa and Rocco met in Italy in 1970 and married at St. Basil's Church in Vallejo a year later. He owned "Italia Pizzeria", also known as "Rocco's Place", in Vallejo. There he and his wife enjoyed making pizza and Italian food. He retired from the restaurant business in 1984 to spend more quality time with his wife and children. Rocco enjoyed playing the guitar, and making and sharing limoncello and grappa with his friends and families. Rocco is preceded in death by a brother, and parents, Giuseppe and Mattea Messina. He is survived by a brother, Joseph; wife, Teresa; daughter, Lisa; son in law, Edward; son, Peppino, and four grandchildren. Viewing will be held at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo, starting at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 925 Sacramento St., Vallejo, at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 17.
