Local businessman and farmer, Norman Darling Sr., 88, passed away at home on Thursday, May 4, 2017.
Norman was born Jan. 14, 1929, in Plains Township, to Samuel Darling and Rebecca Blaydon, both from Cambridgeshire, England. He was a 1946 graduate of Plains High School.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary (Pavidus) Darling, of Dallas, formerly of Exeter; sons, Norman Jr. and wife, Debbie, Paul and wife, Nicole, Joseph and wife, Sandra; and son-in-law, Mark Belenski, all of Dallas; sister, Elizabeth (Darling) Brotherton, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Bryan, Katherine, Logan, Rebecca, Steven; numerous nieces and nephews.
Norman was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Ann (Darling) Belenski, of Dallas; brothers, Thomas Darling, of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Walter Darling, of Plains Township.
He was the owner of Darling & Sons Farms and Greenhouses located in Plains Township and Dallas, established 1918. Norman loved working the family business with his sons and wife. He spent countless hours in the fields doing what he loved and it gave him much pride. Norman embraced a life that focused on his family, friends and community. He always had a joke to brighten your day and a story to share. We were blessed to have him as a husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Norman was a member of several community organizations throughout his life including the minstrels, Plains Ambulance Crew, Plains Lions Club, Odd Fellows and Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 61, Wilkes-Barre, where he served as past master.

Met Mr. Darling back in the 1970s, when I was an elementary school student on a field trip to the farm. What a wonderful, friendly man he was to all of the kids. Great man with a great family. He will be missed by the community.

I am very sorry for your loss, he was a good man. I knew him when he was a director or the Luzerne County Co-op where I was employed. He always had a smile and treated everyone with respect. He will be missed.
