Celia Godula Obituary

Celia Stefania Godula (Nana) of Carverton, 96, passed from this life peacefully at Wesley Village on Oct. 11, 2021, after a brief illness. She was full of life and love until the very end. And she will now be with her husband Frank, who has been waiting for her for over thirty years, along with all her deceased family members for all eternity as the last of her generation.

Born at home in Scranton on Nov. 7, 1924, Celia was the daughter of the late Peter Paul Trosky and Pauline Rafalko Trosky, who immigrated from Poland in 1913.

Celia was raised in Miners Mills and Plains where she resided for almost all of her life. She attended school in Plains Township.

Coming from a big family and joining an even bigger family after marrying the love of her life WWII veteran Frank Godula in 1946, her home would be the center of frequent family gatherings, especially on holidays. In a house of very few rooms, multiple generations of family and friends would pack the place in joyous celebration. As an excellent cook, she would always make enough food to feed an army and loved doing it!

While raising two children, Celia helped financially support the family by working as a seamstress in the local garment industry where she was a longtime and proud representative of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU).

Celia was also a very knowledgeable fan of both baseball and football being a loyal fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles, as well as Penn State. All who loved her knew to never disturb Nana when the Phillies game was on television.

As a Nana, Celia was most proud of her only grandson, Bernie, the light of her life. She would never miss any of his football, baseball or basketball games at Wyoming Area where she was so devoted and loved that she became known as the designated team Nana.

Later in life Celia most enjoyed sitting on her front porch with her family, enjoying the conversation along with a big bowl of fresh fruit. And she really enjoyed Polka dancing, never missing the Pennsylvania Polka show on WVIA-TV every Saturday night.

Preceding her in death were her brothers and sisters-in-law Peter (Jean), Chester (Alice), Stanley (Rita), and Joseph. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Peter (Vera) Godula, Lottie (Nick) Petkovyat, Julia (George) Shane, Stella (Charles) Remas, Bertha (Anthony) Karpavich, and Nancy (John) Guntkowski.

Surviving are son Ronald; daughter and son-in-law Deborah (Bernard) Ambrosavage; grandson Bernie Ambrosavage; sister-in-law Linda Trosky; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Celia will be held this Saturday, Oct., 16, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. in the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Ss. Oh, the last of the greatest generation in our family. Aunt Celia, you have always been a blessing and joy to each and every single one of us. You will always be loved and terribly missed.

Thank you for the love and blessings of your presence in my life. Rest peacefully, and if you can, please tell Grandma and Pop Pop I love and miss them. They'll probably be sitting at the bar. I will miss you, Aunt Celia.

We are so very sorry for the loss of our Aunt Celia! She was the matriarch of our family and everyone just adored her. There are so many wonderful family memories and they were all because of her. There was no one quite like her; and that is why she will be truly missed. R.I.P. our beautiful Aunt Celia. You are in heaven with Uncle Nixie and the rest of our fun loving family. I know they will all be happy to see you. Until we meet again!!!
Love you forever, Martha and Denise xoxoxo
