Edward Robert Williams joined his wife and son in heaven on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019. Born on March 27, 1932, Edward was the son of the late Edward and Alberta Thomas Williams. He was raised in Swoyersville.

At a young age, he crossed the railroad tracks and went to the Back Mountain to find his wife — Ruby Shrey. They married and Ed joined the U.S. Army, stationed in Fort Knox, Ky. He was very proud of the fact that he made Sergeant in less than two years. The day he received his honorable discharge, on Jan. 7, 1955, his daughter, JoAnn, was born. Three years later his son, Edward (Rob), arrived.

Edward worked at Transcontinental Transco/Williams Company Gas pipeline for over 30 years. He worked in the office and on the gas line. During the Agnes Flood, Transco flew him by helicopter to check the line by air.

Edward was a strong, no-nonsense man. When he did something, he did it right, and took pride in everything he did. He was an excellent provider for his family which was very important to him. He would always tell his grandchildren to "use common sense!" During his life he was an avid hunter and fisher until his son passed.

Ed was very proud that he built his own home with his wife's father after getting out of G.I. School for Carpentry.

He was married to Ruby for over 60 years. When they retired, they lived in Phoenix, Ariz., then they bought a home in Silver Springs, Fla., to live in during the winter and lived in Shavertown in the spring and summer. They traveled in a travel senior group and Edward took pride in volunteering at the Dallas Senior Center for many years and was recognized yearly for it. Ed and Ruby enjoyed camping for many years.

In Edward's life, if someone needed help, he was there.

Surviving are his daughter, JoAnn Brown, of Shavertown; grandchildren, Dennis Brown; Adam Brown and his fiancée, Stephanie Hall; and Spring and Edward Williams; as well as nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, from Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown. The Rev. Charles Grube, pastor at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, will officiate. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
