Joseph L. Tweedle Jr. otherwise known as "Pop" or simply "Joe" went to sleep on the third day of December 2020 at the youthful age of 85. Pop was with close family members at the time of his departure, never having been alone. Joe requested no funeral services. As he would say, "If you can't visit or talk to me when I'm alive, don't come see me when I'm not."
Joe was the son of Joseph Tweedle Sr. and grandson of Dr. James B. Tweedle MD. James served in the Civil War as a physician. Having been honorably discharged in 1865, he established his practice in Weatherly. Joe, like his grandfather, served his country. He fought in the Korean War, Special Forces, Rangers. Joe spent his youth in Wilkes-Barre and Graduated from GAR High School. He furthered his education at Penn State and Wilkes College.
Joe worked for the Federal Bureau of Surface Mining as a draftsman, surveyor and mining fire specialist for more than 30 years. He also served as zoning officer for Rice Township for approximately 20 years.
Joe and his wife Esther share a residence in Rice Township, having made it their home for over 55 years. In 2020 they celebrated their 60th anniversary. He spent time instructing others in fly fishing, casting and tying. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and hiking in the woods. His favorite was fly fishing at which he obtained a professional level. This was his passion in sports and a gift he passed onto his grandson, Mitchell. Together they would trek the rivers casting away.
Pop married Esther Layaou in 1960. She will miss him. In addition to his wife Esther, Joe is survived by his son, Joseph E. "Jake" (Marybeth Galenas), of Avoca, and daughters Jill E. Hildebrand (Ray C Hildebrand), of Slocum Township, and Trudy A. Tweedle-Cagle Ph.D. (Jim Cagle), of Grand Rapids, Minn. Pop's pride and glory were his grandchildren whom he remained an active part of all their lives. Alex. R Hildebrand (Kori), of Vero Beach, Fla., Mitchell J. Hildebrand (Kelsey Reilly), Dorrance Township, Noah J. Cagle and McKayla R. Cagle, from Grand Rapids, Minn., great-granddaughter, Miss Haddie Hildebrand, daughter of Mitchell and Kelsey. Haddie at 2 years old held an incredibly special place in his heart along with McKayla. Pop attended all his children & grandchildren's activities from fishing, hunting, trapping, football, Olympic level recurve archery, semi pro, motocross, and ice cream with McKayla. Pop will always be in our hearts and our lives. To my sister and I, he will always be Dad. Hey, wait, he never came to our "Races," but, he would always ask "Did you win?" As we rolled our eyes, Sure Dad, we won (20,000 runners) yep, we won alright. It is ok Dad usually we were hundreds of miles away doing our craziness.
At the request of his family, do not send flowers. If anyone wishes, a donation may be made to Tweedle Park and Playground Association, Weatherly, PA 70 Franklin St., Weatherly, PA 18255, or Christ United Methodist Church Mountain Top, PA. There will be a Celebration of his Life Event sometime in the future.

I'm very sorry for your loss-Joe taught me how to tie flies at LCCC over 40 years ago and I'm still at it. Thank you!
