Gloria Dow Obituary

Nov. 6, 2012

Gloria Marianne Dow, 60, a former resident of Kingston, passed away on Tuesday morning, Nov. 6, 2012, at the home of her daughter, in Fort Washington, Pa., with her two children by her side following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on Aug. 12, 1952 in Yonkers, N.Y., Marianne was a daughter of the late John and Ethel (Mihalik) Habina.

Marianne was a graduate of Saint Cyril Academy, Danville, class of 1970. Following high school, Marianne went on to further her education at the College of Mount St. Vincent, Riverdale, N.Y., where she earned her bachelor's degree in sociology in 1974. She then went on to obtain her master's degree in 1975 from the College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, N.Y.

Prior to her retirement in 2008, Marianne was an educator for the Diocese of Scranton for 33 years. Throughout her career, she taught at the former Saint John Nepomucene Grade School, Luzerne, and the former Saint Mary's Grade School, Old Forge. Marianne was a member of the National Catholic Educators Association.

A faithful Catholic, Marianne was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Church, Kingston, where for many years she served as an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist.

Family always came first to Marianne throughout her life and she treasured every moment she had with her loved ones. "Mamar," as she was affectionately known by her children and grandchildren, will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend.

Marianne is survived by her children, Timothy M. Dow and his wife, Kristin, of Kingston, Nicole Marie Dow-Macosky and her husband, Ed, of Fort Washington; her grandchildren, Haley Dow, Timothy Dow Jr. and Laine Macosky.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bruce Saidman and the entire staff at Medical Oncology Associates for the compassionate care they bestowed upon Marianne during her time of illness. Also, the family wishes to thank Marianne's dear friends, Missy, Wanda, Ronnie, Gloria, Cathy, Jill and Toni for always being there for her.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, which will be conducted on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, 339 N. Maple Ave., Kingston. Interment will be held privately for the immediate family in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Wishing deepest sympathy to Gloria's family. She was my 6th grade teacher in Old Forge, and had a tremendous impact on all of us at St. Marys. Her faith and wit are things that I will treasure always. I know that she is now being embraced by the Father, in the same way she loved and cared for so many of us on earth. I am deeply grateful for having been taught and mentored by her. May she rest in the peace of Christ.
