ERIE — Miguel Such, beloved son, brother and uncle of Erie and formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Monday, July 3, 2017, at his home.

He was the son of the late Miguel Such, of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Barbara Ternosky, of Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Irene Ternosky; and paternal grandparents, Radimez Such and Maria Coyle.

He is survived by his brothers, Enrique Such (Alison), of Puerto Rico, Scott Echtermeyer (Bonnie), of Arizona; and sisters, Iliana Such, of Wilkes-Barre, and Emilia Franco, of Puerto Rico; nephews, Michael Franco and John Such-Mashinski; nieces, Sophia and Valentina Such; uncles, aunts and several cousins.

Miguel's life was considered by many a tragedy. However, "he attained a profound level of contemplation," (Sister Mary Joseph Calore) and wrote on prison ministry. He was an Oblate of St. Benedict affiliated with St. Vincent Archabbey. He was a motivational speaker, world-class wheelchair racer and activist for the disabled.

His latest achievement was participating in CHESS, an annual humanities conference organized through Gannon University. The title of his most recent project was, "Transformation: Toward a Culture of Encounter, Loving the Unlovable and Forgiving the Unforgivable." In the words of Father Donald, "In spite of his problems, Miguel was a blessing to many people."

Family and friends are invited to a Mass to celebrate his life at 9 a.m. July 8, 2017, in St. Ignatius Church in Kingston with Father Leo McKernan officiating. A private interment for family will be held afterward in St. Mary's Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre.
