BEAUMONT — Nile James Sickler, 79, of Beaumont, left this life on Feb. 14, 2018.
Nile was born at home in a small house that still stands in Evans Falls. He met the love of his life, the former Elba Siglin, when he was 17, and they were married in 1956. The majority of his adult life was spent in Beaumont, where he built the family home in 1967. He passed at the home of his daughter, Maureen.
Nile attended Beaumont schools and was on the basketball team. Nile began his working career at Endicott-Johnson, Endicott, N.Y. When his first child was born, he moved back home to Beaumont and proceeded to work in the construction field. There was no gap in his work life, always providing for a happy family. For several years, he also was employed by Kingston Provision Company, delivering meat to various warehouses in Pennsylvania. He owned and operated a Gulf Service Station in Bowman's Creek for several years. At one point, he owned a milk hauler, and delivered milk from farm to dairy for several years. In 1972, he established Sickler's Excavating in Beaumont. He also owned and operated a school bus in the Tunkhannock District.
Nile enjoyed hunting and fishing, as he learned these sports alongside his beloved father. He enjoyed traveling, making many weekend trips to DuBois. He took the family on a trip to Florida when his children were small, and many more trips along the Eastern seaboard. He was in his glory driving and enjoying the sites. His parents were included in many of these trips. Nile was a member of the Noxen Rod & Gun Club, South Mtn. Land Assoc. and The Rocky Mtn. Elk Foundation. As an adult, Nile was proud to have been baptized as an adult through his church, The Noxen Lutheran Church.
The joy his children brought him for most of his life continued on with his grandchildren. They were his priority, pride and ultimate enjoyment. Nothing pleased him more than their presence at his home as often as possible.
Nile is survived by his beloved wife, Elba (Siglin) Sickler; children, Maureen and husband, Dave, Steven and wife, Sue, Elaine and husband, Mike, Bill and wife, Kelly; eight grandchildren: Jim Gavek Jr. and partner, Melissa, Chrissy Gavek, and partner, Bradley, Steve and fiancee, Ashley, Scott and partner, Tammy Vincavage, David Haas, Mary Haas, Brenna Sickler, Logan Sickler and partner, Dave Slevenski Jr.; and great-grandchildren: Kayla Gavek, Jim Gavek III, Karli Gavek, Nile Joseph Gavek, Jakob Spickerman, Kinsley Grace Slevenski and Steven Nile Sickler. Also surviving are sister Janice Babcock and husband Pete. Nile also had many nieces and nephews who were dear to his heart.
