Jack A. Marks
88, a lifelong resident of Dover died Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 21, 2011) in the Park Village Health Care Center at Dover. Jack retired from Empire Detroit (Reeves Steel) Company in Dover following over 40 years of service. Born Sep. 13, 1923 in Dover, he was the son of the late Wellington Marks and Margaret (Henney) Marks. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Dover. A 1942 graduate of Dover High School, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force in the 354th Fighter Group during World War II where he was stationed in England, France, Normandy, and Czechoslovakia. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following Dover High School, Ohio State University and the Cleveland Browns. He could often be seen during the summers watching baseball and especially loved following his son, John and the grandchildren in their sports activities. He was also involved in the United Steelworkers Union. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
Jack will be sadly missed by his wife, Dolores (Leone) Marks with whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage on Sep. 14; a daughter, Catherine Marks of Columbus and a son, John (Linda) Marks of Wilkshire Hills; seven grandchildren, Christopher Harlan, Laurie Hall, Jason and Joshua Marks, and Kristen, Elise, and Maxwell Murakami along with 12 great-grandchildren; along with his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michael Leone and Mary Kline both of Dover and Nancy Zifer Wallick of New Philadelphia. Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Murakami; two brothers, Don and Charles Marks and three sisters, Ruth, Wilma, and Birdene.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. Matt Hoover officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover on Friday from 6-8 p.m. with Christian Wake services at 8 p.m. Those unable to attend or who may wish to express a fond memory of Jack may sign the online guestbook by visiting the "obituaries and flowers" link on the funeral home website at www.tolandherzig.com In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 613 N.
