Richard "Dick" Cope
85, of Sherrodsville passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Carroll Healthcare Center in Carrollton. A son of the late Frank and Mary Jane Purdue Cope, he was born April 10, 1931 in Canton, Ohio.
Dick was a graduate of Carrollton High School and Ohio University where he received a degree in mechanical engineering. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy for ten years. His memberships included Advanced Training Group in Lisbon, Ohio, New Lisbon #65 Masonic Lodge. For years Dick was an avid fan of Mount Union University football and would travel to both home and away games. Before his retirement he was working as a salesman for The Daily Digger.
He is survived by two daughters, Kitty (Tom) Weir of Carrollton and Barbara (Tom) Newbold of Sherrodsville; grandchildren, Jennifer (Bart) Wilking of Colorado, Chad (Kelly) Lowdermilk of Carrollton, Jonathan (Jessica) Lowdermilk of Carrollton, and Jessica Shortland of Florida; step-grandchildren, Brian and David Newbold, Klint and Bobbi Jo Weir; great grandchildren, Makenna Belle Shortland and Cael, Cade, Conner Lowdermilk; step great grandchildren, Tanner, Reighly,Tyler, Jayce and Ilah Newbold; niece, Jane Cope Hershberger; and his faithful companion, his dog, Winston.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Cope, and a niece, JoAnn Deihl.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Dick on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. in Dodds Funeral Home of Carrollton with Rev. Tom Chain officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until time of services in the funeral home.
