Elizabeth and Kermit
Together Again

Elizabeth L.
Longfellow
of S. Bodmer Ave., Strasburg died Wednesday, April 10, 2013 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover seven days following her 101st birthday. She was born April 3, 1912 in Woodsfield, Ohio, the daughter of the late Oscar and Anna (Reich) Freitag. She was a longtime member of the St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg and was involved in the Gleaner Class, Women's Prayer Group, and the Seasoned Seniors and enjoyed volunteering at the church in any way she could. She was also a member of the AARP and loved working with children in the church and was previously active in the Strasburg Band Mothers. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother and great-grandma. She had numerous homemaking talents including cooking, sewing, and especially quilting. Her family and friends will not soon forget her homemade coffee cakes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit W. Longfellow with whom she was married 57 years. He died on Feb. 11, 1993. She was also preceded by two great-granddaughters, Amanda Laizure and Erin McCullough, along with three brothers and a sister.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Rosalie (John) Goodman and Evelyn (Leon) Smith, both of Beach City and Richard P. (Beth Buehler) Longfellow and David K. (Sheri Duvall) Longfellow, both of Strasburg. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to her guardian angels, Miss Eunice and Miss Mary Lou who enhanced Elizabeth's later years and a special thanks to the Hennis family and staff for their thoughtfulness, kindness, and caring during the last part of mother's journey.
A funeral service celebrating Elizabeth's life will be held Monday, April 15, 2013 beginning at 11 a.m. in the St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg with Rev. Gary Friend officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Kermit at the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and Monday at the church from 10-11 a.m. Those unable to attend or who may wish to express a fond memory of Elizabeth may sign the online guestbook by visiting the "obituaries and flowers" link on the funeral home website at www.tolandherzig.com.
