Brendan Liam Brown-McCue
LITTLE FALLS - Brendan Liam Brown-McCue, 27, of Little Falls and Florham Park, NJ, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Hunter Mountain Ski Resort, in NY, from a skiing accident.
He is survived by his parents, Christina Brown and William McCue, of Little Falls; grandparents, Janice Fortney, Jane and William McCue and William and Edra Brown; great-aunt and uncle, Nancy and Craig Weatherby; aunts and uncles, Eileen and Jim Miller, Christine McCue and Jeremy Rase, Richard and Tasha Brown and Sherry Clemente; beloved cousins, Meagan and Stephanie Miller, Jane Grounds, Matt and Jake Rase, Lucas and Annie Brown; his "Long Island family" the Screeneys; and many wonderful extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved great-grandparents and his dear cousin, Jimmy Miller.
Brendan was born in Toledo, Ohio, coming into the world two months early, thereby establishing a lust for life at an early age. He moved to Chicago with his family during his adolescence and was a 2010 graduate of New Trier High School in Wilmette, IL. Brendan enjoyed science and developed a love for sailing in high school. He co-founded the Stony Brook University sailing team and enjoyed many regattas and sailing adventures with his sailing team and chums. Brendan taught sailing during the summers at several yacht clubs on Long Island and was a graduate of Stony Brook University, where he majored in biology and specialized in genetics.
Brendan spent much of the past two years sailing with SEA Semester (of Woods Hole, MA) on tall ships, teaching sailing and marine science to college students and others. He had great adventures the past year, sailing in the South Pacific and around New Zealand and also up and down the Atlantic seaboard and visiting Vietnam and more recently, the Netherlands with friends. He went hiking with his family every year, enjoying many adventures in the Canadian Rockies, Norway, Alaska, New Zealand and other beautiful places. He had very recently joined GenSet in NJ, where he was excited about his work and learning new things.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, on Friday, January 25, 2019, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 12:00 p.m., from the First Presbyterian Church, 16 Jackson Street, Little Falls. Brendan will be cremated and his ashes scattered at sea and in the mountains.
In lieu of flowers, it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Brendan be considered to: SEA Semester, https://www.sea.edu/support_sea/ways_to_give
From his experiments at sea, he was also very concerned about the plastics in the ocean and was trying to get his folks to give up straws, so maybe we could all do that too.
