Catherine M. Edwards 1936 - 2020
TOWN OF NORWAY - Catherine M. Edwards, 84, of Military Road, died on December 26, 2020 at her home.
Mrs. Edwards was born on April 5, 1936 in Meredith, a daughter of the late Harry and Myrtle (Alger) Davenport. She received her education from Oneonta High School. On November 28, 1953, she was united in marriage with Gordon A. Edwards at the Deansboro Methodist Church. She was a lifelong farmer's wife and also worked at various places throughout her life including Mele Manufacturing, Daniel Green Shoe Factory and Sunrise Green House. After retiring, she became the full time family babysitter. Gordon preceded her in death on March 19, 2019.
Catherine was a former member of the Gray Fire Department Auxiliary. She was a member of the former Norway Baptist Church, where she once taught Sunday school. She enjoyed family, cooking, playing cards and was an avid reader.
Survivors include four children, Cathy Edwards, of the home address, Susan (Everett) Strahan, of Mineola, TX, Gordon (Alberta) Edwards, Jr., of Newport and Anna (Jace, Jr.) Roberts, of Pittsburgh, PA; three sisters, Bertha (Raymond) Jacques, of Oneonta, Rosie Beers, of Cooperstown and Geraldine Kelsey, of Oneonta; eleven grandchildren, Kaylynn, Jerry, Scott, Anne, Chris, Jen, Reya, Tina, Darrell, Priscilla and Will; fifteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband of 65 years, Gordon, Catherine was predeceased by two sisters, Doris Layman and Cora Kelsey; two brothers, William and Robert Davenport; and a grandson, Glenn Strahan.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her daughter, Cathy Edwards, for her compassionate care.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no public calling hours.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport.
