Irene J. Calka

Calka, Irene J. ALBANY Irene J. Calka, 91, died Friday, February 17, 2012 at Ellis Hospital. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Franciszek and Helen Toniecka Wozniak. Irene was a 1938 graduate of Albany High School, and went on to study at Mildred Elley. She obtained a real estate certificate from Russell Sage in 1955. Irene was a former licensed beautician in both New York and California. She had worked as a clerk and stenographer at the Albany County Court House and Sheriff's Office. She also worked as a clerk for the Albany Community Chest and John Mistletoe Bookshop. Irene retired in 1986 from the New York State Retired Teachers Association, Inc. She was the wife of the late John L. Calka, whom she married July 21, 1940 at Blessed Virgin Mary of Czestochowa Polish National Catholic Church in Albany. Irene was the beloved mother of John Calka (Orysia Stanecky) and Faith Calka (Michael Williams); dear grandmother of Zachary Falle (Erika Dembowski), Stefan Calka, Larissa Calka and Brittany Williams (Dave Bailey); great-grandmother of Alexandria Falle, Anna Baily and Max Baily; sister of Matthew Calka (Helen Quade) and the late Helena G. Maciorowski (Anthony). Funeral services Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 8:15 a.m. from the Lasak & Gigliotti Funeral Home, now located at 208 North Allen Street, Albany thence to Blessed Virgin Mary of Czestochowa Church at 9:00 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call Tuesday, February 21, 2012 4:00 to 7:00 p..m in the funeral home. Interment Memory Gardens Cemetery.
