Verneta G. Jones

Jones, Verneta G. EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. Verneta G. "Bobbi" Jones, 85, died on December 29, 2013, after a long bout with cancer, at the home of her loving daughter Pamela Jones Harbour and son-in-law John Harbour in East Brunswick. Verneta Jones was born December 3, 1928 in Whitmire, S.C. to Lester and Vivian Fant. During her high school years, she moved to New York City where she met and later married Joseph Jones, Sr., her beloved husband who passed away on December 19, 2009. Mrs. Jones supported her husband, Joe, who enrolled in a stenography course at Columbia University and who later embarked on a highly successful career as a court reporter. Through Mrs. Jones's ingenuity and ancillary interest in the field of court reporting, she and her husband began their new business, Stenotype Systems, Inc., where Mrs. Jones served as its director. In her capacity as director, Mrs. Jones taught and trained many successful court reporters in the Albany area. Her interests included family, her siblings, reading, Atlantic City, sports, teaching and her membership in the M.C. Lawton Civic and Cultural Club, Inc. In earlier times, Mrs. Jones devoted much of her interest and energy to political and civic organizations, where she served as a founding member of the "Grass Roots for Rockefeller" political action committee and where she co-founded, with her husband, the "Concerned Citizens" group in Albany. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, in New Brunswick. Mrs. Jones is survived by her son, Joseph "Skip" Jones, Jr. and his spouse, Cheryl Jones; daughter, Pamela Jones Harbour and her spouse John Harbour; siblings, Ernest Fant, Marzella Dawkins, Dorothy Haime, and James Fant; nieces and nephews, Caroline and Natalie Fant, Deatra Anderson and Ross Haime, Walter and Corey Dawkins, and Stephen Fant; her six grandchildren, Joseph Jones III, Victoria Harbour, Benjamin Jones, Alexandra Harbour, Joshua Jones, and Catherine Harbour; and many relatives and friends. A grave side service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 at Evergreen Memorial Park, 2150 Central Avenue, Schenectady.
