Alice Beverly "Bev" Gallup obituary

Alice Gallup Obituary

Gallup, Alice Beverly "Bev" FEURA BUSH, N.Y. Alice Beverly Gallup, 75, of Feura Bush, beloved wife of Thomas Gallup, passed away at St. Peter's Hospice Inn after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by her loving family. She joins her parents, James and Julia Altimari and siblings, Doris and Jim in heaven. A giver to the end, Bev passed away just two hours after her father, James-not wanting her father to outlive all his children. A wife of 57 years, a mother of six and a grandmother of 16, family was at the heart and soul of everything Bev did. She took these roles very seriously and dedicated much time, thought and energy to ensure that everyone felt welcomed, valued and most importantly, loved. She was the definition of the word matriarch; the center of our family. After many years of being a stay at home mother, she began working outside of the home. The year she turned 40, she earned an associate's degree in business from Maria College, graduating Summa Cum Laude. The family remembers this as a time of great pride for Bev. She was employed by the NYS Dormitory Authority where she worked for over 20 years. She had many fond memories of this time in her life and made many wonderful friends. She retired almost 15 years ago in order to spend time with her beloved family at home and her home away from home in Eastham, Cape Cod, Mass. Bev also spent much of her retirement perfecting her skills as a decorative painter. She was a member of the Capitolers, the Thursday morning paint group, the Tuesday Tolers and the Arlene Beck painting group in Schoharie. She was always eager to learn new techniques and styles of painting and loved the camaraderie of her painting friends. Always a creative soul, Bev was known for crafting treasures for family and friends. Her grandchildren will always cherish the hand-painted Christmas ornaments that she lovingly made for them each year. In keeping with her giving spirit, Bev also dedicated much time to a variety of charitable and volunteer endeavors. She particularly enjoyed giving of her time to the Center City PSM Food Pantry, the Bethlehem Business Women's Club and St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband Thomas; and her children, Craig (Therese), Brian (Meg), Charise (Billy Crounse), John (Liz), Colin (Krista) and Alison (Joe Gardner); her grandchildren, Thomas, Mary-Margaret, James, Nathan, Sam, Grant, Jennifer, Anna, Jacob, Luke, Will, Conor, Ryan, Evan, Stuart and Kelsey; and several nieces and nephews. Bev's family would like to thank the compassionate staff and volunteers at the Community Hospice and the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's, and her primary care physician, Dr. Theodore Zeltner. Calling hours for Bev and her father will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church 35 Adams Place, Delmar on Saturday at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Beverly's honor to the Center City PSM Food Pantry, 315 Sheridan Ave., Albany 12206 or the Community Hospice Foundation, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer 12144.

Dear Tom and family:

We are so saddened by the loss of Bev and also her father. Bev and I shared a very special friendship. I enjoyed listening to her tell me all about what her kids were up to, and then the grandkids. It's hard to understand it now, but at least she did not suffer in pain for many years. It will make her happy to be together again with her family in heaven. Treasure your happy memories!

Dear Tom and all Family, I had the great honor of doing Beverly's hair at Scissor Society, Delmar NY when Marsha retired. Bev and I quickly became friends, and often enjoyed sharing stories of our families. Last year, at this time, when I was married, she made me a very beautiful platter for a wedding gift. I will cherish it always, and I will miss her greatly. I am very sorry for your loss. Alice Maxstadt

I have many memories of things we did together, some a little crazy as we went thru all grades of school. You know that I would have been there with her had I not lived so far away. My dearest Colin and Krista,
I am deeply saddened at your loss. Your mother was blessed to have you as her children. I am keeping you all in thought and prayer. How beautiful that the Lord asked your grandfather to go ahead so that he would be waiting for your mother when she arrived. Now that are together in peace. I have asked my brother, Fr. Julian stationed in Rome, Italy to remember them both in Mass today. God Bless You. Love, Diana
