Hopkins, Cortland EAST GREENBUSH Cortland Hopkins "Hoppy" (formerly of Rotterdam, N.Y.) died at Evergreen Commons, East Greenbush, N.Y. on Monday, February 28, 2011. Cortland 96, was born November 4, 1914 in Charl-ottetown, Prince Edwards Island, the son of the late Catherine Langford Hopkins and Cortland Hopkins. He moved to Schenectady as a child and attended city schools. Cortland was a D-Day veteran and served with the 519th Port Battalion in World War II. In 1946 Cortland married Marjorie Bulow. She died in 1998. Cortland was employed by the General Electric company as a welder in the Large Steam Turbine Generator Dept. He was a 60 year member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Bellevue where he served on the vestry and various church ministries. Cortland was a charter member of the Annie Schaffer Senior Citizens bike club and the Mohawk-Hudson Wheel Mens Club. He enjoyed traveling with family. He helped friends and family, participated in Crop Walks, served meals at the Schenectady City Mission and biked for charity. Cortland called Evergreen Commons his home for the past three years where he enjoyed the friendship of fellow residents, staff and visitors. He was a member of the resident council, Veteran's and men's group and enjoyed all the activities. The book "Longshore Soldiers" was written by Andrew Brozyna as a tribute to his grandfather and the veterans of World War II. Cortland is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Joseph) Di Bartolomeo and Patricia (Jeffry) Brozyna. He leaves six grandchildren, Michael (Jean) Di Bartolomeo, Matthew (Rebecca) Di Bartolomeo, Julie (Stephen) Blanchette, Andrew (Kelly) Brozyna, Marcie Brozyna, Tegan Brozyna; eight great-grand-children, Marie, Charlie, Sylvie, Caprial, Aubrielle, Zoe and Ashley. Cortland leaves his sister Vivian, a brother Francis and sister-in-law Raublyn Hopkins and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, James Hopkins and Edward Hopkins. Well Done Thou Good and Faithful Servant. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, March 5 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1911 Fairview Ave. in Schenectady. Calling hours will be held Friday evening 5:30 to 7:30 at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, N.Y. with a remembrance being held at 6:30 p.m. Interment, with military honors, will be held in Evergreen Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Evergreen Commons Resident Council, 1070 Luther Rd. East Greenbush, NY 12061, or the charity of your choice.
