Hughes, Dennae Marie Manico BRUNSWICK Dennae Marie Manico Hughes, 45, died peacefully in her home, with her family surrounding her on Saturday, June 9, 2018. A lifelong resident of Brunswick, Dennae was a graduate of Siena College and SUNY Albany where she received her bachelor and master of arts degrees in education and history. Dennae had been an educator teaching ninth and tenth grade history at Mohonasen High School for 15 years, during which time she opened her heart to support, challenge and inspire her students. Dennae was an inspirational woman so amazingly loving, humble, hilariously unapologetic and strong. She approached her battle with brain cancer the same way she approached her entire life, with courage, dignity and a contagious strength. Dennae was the beloved wife and best friend of Patrick Hughes; devoted mother of Conor and Mikaleigh Hughes; cherished daughter of Louis and Grace Alix Manico of Brunswick; dear sister of Carly (Robert) Waters of Brunswick; granddaughter of Shirley (late Eugene) Alix of Florida and the late Joseph and Beatrice Manico; and special niece of Joyce Alix Connery of Cohoes. She was the daughter- in-law of Patrick and Margaret Hughes of Wynantskill; sister-in-law of Megan and Scott Sommo of Guilderland; and aunt of Paige, Bobby and Brody Waters and Avery and Andrew Sommo. Of all of Dennae's many passions, she most enjoyed spending time with her cherished family including countless hours at the pool cheering for Conor and Mikaleigh, hosting family gatherings for all occasions, and traveling, especially to Cape Cod and Florida. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in Our Lady of Victory Church, Troy on Friday at 11 a.m. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Ave., Green Island. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dennae's memory to the Dennae Hughes Memorial Fund at Pioneer Bank, 652 Albany Shaker Rd, Albany, NY, 12211 or at any Pioneer Bank location. Contributions will be used to support local student education efforts and charitable organizations for the education, health and welfare of children.
