Tanner, Donald N. SELKIRK Donald N. Tanner, 82, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Veterans Hospital in Albany. Don was born and raised in Albany. He moved to New Baltimore where he became a Greene County sheriff's deputy then constable for the Town of New Baltimore and then police chief. He joined and became a lifetime member of the Cornell Hook & Ladder Co. Don was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War in the eighth army. He worked for the former "Bud" Kearney Ford as a mechanic and service manager and the former Marshall's Garage, both in Ravena. Don was also a guard for the former Beck's Roller Rink. Don was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Ravena and was a member of the Ravena VFW Post 9594 and the New Baltimore American Legion. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Barbara Staats Tanner; sons, Donald Tanner Jr. and Joseph (Lynn) Tanner Sr.; brother, Arthur Tanner; brother-in-law, Howard (Georgia) Staats, Marvin (Barbara) Staats and Lynn Pupello; lifetime friend, Salvatore Catalfamo; niece, Lisa Pitnell; nephews, Edward Flynn and William (Lori) Flynn; grandchildren, Jami (George Babcock) Passaretti, Cassi (Sam) Stanley, Joseph Tanner Jr.; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Damon Babcock, Savana and Sami Stanley, and Joey Tanner III. Don was predeceased by his parents, William and Emma Tanner, brothers- and sisters-in-law, Edward and Mary Flynn, William and Bert Flynn and Elizabeth Tanner. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 1 at St. Patrick's Church, Ravena. Burial with military honors will follow in Saratoga National Cemetery. Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Ravena VFW Post 9594, the New Baltimore American Legion Post 1614, St. Patrick's Church or Cornell Hook & Ladder Co.
