O'Connor, Gerald COLONIE Gerald "Jerry" G. O'Connor, 85, entered peacefully into rest Sunday, November 4, 2012 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late John H. O'Connor and Clara A. Gormly; he was the brother of the late John O'Connor, Jacqueline Hickey, the late James O'Connor, Mary Janice Cillis, Joel O'Connor and J. Noel O'Connor. He was a lifelong resident of Albany County and a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy. He enlisted in the Army, serving in the 82nd Airborne during World War II. He worked for the NY Telephone Company for 35 years. Jerry was very active in union work and served as a past vice-president for the local CWA. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Elks. Jerry was an avid fisherman, and had a love of the Adirondack region. He also enjoyed bowling, baseball and spending time with his grand children. In 1950, Jerry married the love of his life, Mary "Betty" E. Harte, who predeceased him in 2001 after celebrating 50 years of marriage. He was the beloved father of Steven P. O'Connor (Diane) of Loudonville, the Reverend Justine M. Guernsey (William) of Delmar, Lynne E. DeRusso (Gary) of East Berne, Judith Joly (Mark) of Clifton Park and Michele Roach (Glenn) of Leeds; and the cherished grandfather of 12 grandchildren, Kathleen, Katie, Adam, James, Timothy, Thomas, Travis, Christopher, Jessica, Justin, Miranda and Tyler; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of All Saints, 62 South Swan Street Albany, followed by interment at Memory Gardens, Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany, on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Jerry may be made to the , 4 Pine West Plaza, Albany, NY, 12205.
