D'Amato, Helen MALTA Heaven has gained a beautiful soul, Helen Gramkow Mitchell D'Amato, 95, passed on Monday, August 13, 2018, at Wesley Health Care Center after a short illness. Helen was born at home in Little Ferry, N.J. on November 22, 1922, the only child of Fred and Helen vonOhlen Gramkow. During her child and teenage years, she sang on the stage and radio, sharing the programs with people like Kate Smith and Rose Marie who later joined the Dick Van Dyke Show. She gave up show business to get married and begin a family. Helen did not give up singing. She shared her gift with her church, the Evangelical Congregational Church, United Church of Christ. Helen lived in Little Ferry her whole life, serving on the town board, as a Girl Scout leader, in many clubs, and many offices in the church. She is survived by her loving daughter, Pamela Woodman; cherished granddaughters, Jennifer (Steven) Bourdeau and Veronica (Kelly) Vittitoe; and fun loving great-grandchildren, Mason and Emmaline Bourdeau, and Abigail, Samantha, and Nathaniel Vittitoe. The family sends many thanks to the all the nurses and staff of the Wesley Health Care Center for the kindness and support they showed Helen. We will be forever grateful. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Helen's memorial service at 3 p.m., on Sunday, September 16, following a brief visitation in the Malta Presbyterian Church, 118 Dunning St., Malta, NY, 12020. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make donations in memory of Helen may do so through the Malta Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 2134, Malta, NY, 12020.
