Tibbetts, John Richard MURPHY, N.C. John Richard Tibbetts passed away peacefully July 31, 2018 in Murphy, N.C., following a brief illness and a respectable battle with congestive heart failure. John was a local graduate of Bethlehem High School where he played football, Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) with Phi Beta Kappa society honors and a proud member of the Epsilon Nu chapter of Sigma Nu and receiving his post-graduate degree from the University of Albany. He dedicated his professional career to public service and education, with more than 30 years as the human resource director for Hudson Valley Community College. His remarkable service to people in a college environment speaks not only to his passion for supporting those around him to achieve their best but is demonstrative of his dedication to continuous learning. John was a voracious reader, avid outdoorsman, motorcycle enthusiast, talented artist and remarkable fly-tier and passionate sports fan. John will be fondly remembered for his ability to spin a yarn; recounting countless adventures with friends, climbing in the backcountry, cross-country on his beloved BMW or basketball tournaments up and down the East Coast. Predeceased by his wife of nearly 40 years, Danielle Jean Tibbetts, many of his tales let those around him live their times together nearly vicariously. They will be remembered and honored by their daughter, Nicole Tibbetts currently of Cardiff, Wales and granddaughters Severine and Penelope.
