Ferra, Linda A. TROY Linda Ann Ferra, 72, passed away at St. Peter's Hospital on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, with her family by her side. Born in Troy on September 2, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Francis M. and Isabella Berghamer Higgins. Linda was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and Albany Business College. She married her high school sweetheart, Nick, whom she loved with all her heart. Initially employed by the Albany Felt Company (Albany International) Linda left to start and raise her family. After raising her children, she reentered the work force as a secretary and bookkeeper. Her world was her family; she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Linda was the room mother all through her sons' elementary schooling at George Washington School and was active in the "Parents Club." She cheered for all the children at her boys' baseball and basketball games. As grandchildren started arriving, she was thrilled at being a grandmother. She attended all of their activities; concerts, special school functions, plays, graduations, softball and soccer games. Linda will be remembered by many for always trying to help family and friends in any way she could and strove to do her best in every endeavor. Linda was a life member of the Mountain View Volunteer Fire Company Women's Auxiliary, she served many years as president and treasurer, and along with the other members of the Auxiliary's Firematic Competition Dressing Team, won many trophies at area Field Days. In later years, she joined the OBV Columbiettes. She fought her illness long and hard, trying to be as independent as possible, but always being truly appreciative of the tremendous care and support given to her family. She was the beloved wife of Nicola "Nick" Ferra; devoted mother of Paul Ferra, Nicholas A. Ferra (Noreen) and Mark (Angela) Ferra; proud grandmother of Brittany (Cody) Wright, Tricia (Aaron) Iara, Isabella Ferra, Page Ferra, Nicholas A. Ferra II, Linda Ferra and Sara Brundige; great-grandmother of Malaha Wright; sister of Francis M. (Theresa) Higgins III; and several stepbrothers and stepsisters. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her stepmother Josephine Higgins. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Ave., Troy with Reverend Randall Patterson officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Mrs Ferra was one of the nicest people we have ever known. She was also one of the kindest. She always waved hello, said hi and had a wonderful laugh. When my parents passed, she sent me a beautiful card with a personal letter enclosed telling me how wonderful my parents were. I can't tell you how much that meant to me.
May wonderful memories of her life, her laugh and her smile comfort you in the days to come.
