Michael Korhun

Korhun, Michael COLONIE Michael Korhun, 92, of Colonie and formerly of Troy, entered into eternal life on Thursday November 17, 2016, at the Daughters of Sarah rehabilitation center in Albany. Born in Yatsyny, Ukraine, he was the son of the late Vasyl and Fionia Puzyk Korhun; and the beloved husband of the late Maria Korhun. Michael, along with his wife, Maria; and infant daughter, Ulana, moved to the United States in November of 1952. He was a retiree of Garden Way and previously worked at Norton Company as a tool-maker. His passion was his art, both paintings and woodcarvings. He had exhibited his pieces at dozens of art shows, festivals and exhibits throughout the United States and Canada. In August 2001, on the 10th anniversary of Independence of Ukraine, he was invited to the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington D.C. and was awarded the title "Honored Master of Folk Art of Ukraine." Five of his works were also hung on the Presidential Christmas Tree in the White House. Michael was also a long time devoted parishioner of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Troy. Survivors include his children, Ihor (Halyna) Korhun of Latham, Ulana (Stephen) Owens of The Woodlands, Texas; five grandchildren, Michael (Dawn) Owens, John (Ellen) Owens, Paul Owens, Larissa (William) Sheffler and Andrew (Arete) Korhun. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The funeral procession will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday from the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home 336 3rd St., Troy, to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church where funeral services will be held. Interment will follow in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Troy. Family and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 1 - 5 p.m. in the funeral home. Parastas services will be held at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's memory may be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 376 3rd St., Troy, NY 12180
