Phelan, Nathanael NASSAU Nathanael James Phelan, 31, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 1, 2013. Nate was born on September 23, 1981 in Albany, and raised in Columbia and Rensselaer Counties. He attended Faith Christian Academy in Stottville, N.Y. during his early school years and then went to Chatham Central Schools and graduated from Ichabod Crane High School in 2000. He was the son of John and Kathleen Phelan of Nassau and beloved brother of six siblings. Those he leaves behind include his sister, Jennifer (Hai , Alexandra and Connor) Phelan-Ninh, sister, Jessica (Michael) Jeune, brother, Timothy (Heather and Emma) Phelan, brother, John Phelan, brother, Geoffrey Phelan and sister, Christiana (Cody) Coonradt. He will also be missed by his grandparents, John and Frederica Hoffert and many uncles, aunts, cousins and Odie his pony and Lady his faithful dog. Nate was a proud uncle and faithful friend to many. He always looked for the good in people in all walks of life. He had a faith in God that could not be quenched no matter what challenges came his way in life. He was a skilled welder and taxidermist and had a small landscaping and maintenance business called FreeByrd Works, LLC. Nate was very proud of his two year machine shop welding degree that he received from Columbia-Greene Community College. He was an eternal optimist and had an unquenchable love for people and for God's creation and he loved being outdoors whenever possible. He also loved road trips and adventures and dreamed of many more in the future. Instead, he has made it before all of us to his eternal home. A celebration of Nate's life will be held on Friday, January 4 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St., Nassau. All are invited to attend. A funeral of Christian Burial will be celebrated at House of Praise, 1688 Rt. 9, Castleton, on Saturday, January 5 at 11 a.m. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Nate's last wish would be that everybody he knows would draw closer to the Living God and know the Lord as Nate has come to know Him. Online condolences may be offered at
