Weis, Rita ALBANY Rita Weis, aged 95, died peacefully on September 7, 2017, in the Oakwood Drive home she had lived in for 60 years. The daughter of the late Dennis Hickey Sr. and Catherine Hickey of Albany; Rita was married for 49 years to her loving husband, Enos "Jesse" Weis of the N.Y. State Police, who passed away in 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Ellen (Weis) Aragon; son-in-law, Joseph Aragon; granddaughter, Andelys Lauren Aragon; nephews, Alan, Mark and Michael Morrill and their families, as well as the extended Hickey clan. Rita was a graduate of local Catholic schools and Columbia Teachers' College in New York City. She taught English and history, beginning at Philip Livingston High School, and finishing as a professor at the College of St. Rose. Rita loved reading to neighborhood children on Oakwood Drive and teaching them to bake cookies. She had many good friends and neighbors whom she considered part of her Colonie family. Stemming from her love and concern for the next generations, Rita was an advocate for the environment and responsible local government. Her scrutiny of the Colonie town budget was legendary. She fought to protect local green spaces, woods and wetlands, and was instrumental in the creation of a local park for children. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Rita's family, Friday, September 15, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany.
