Cooper, Robert Elston NISKAYUNA Robert Elston Cooper, age 70, passed away at home in Niskayuna on Saturday, January 6, 2018. Bobby was born on December 11, 1947, in Amsterdam, N.Y., the son of Clara and Alfred Cooper, and grew up in Scotch Church, N.Y. He attended the Fifth Ward School in Amsterdam and worked at several area workshops until his retirement. An incredibly patient man, Bobby loved to work on jigsaw puzzles while listening to some of his favorite performers like Nat King Cole and Ray Charles. A life-long devotee of "The Wizard of Oz," he was most fond of the Cowardly Lion character. Using a particularly aggressive growl, Bobby would often assume the role of the Cowardly Lion in performances and readings. Bobby was loved and cherished by his three sisters, Mary Ellen Brzozowski, Elsie Jean Rew and Susan Cooper; his brother, David Cooper; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews; and the friends and wonderful care-givers at Shirl Lane Residence in Niskayuna, and DayBreak at Marjorie Doyle Rockwell Center in Cohoes. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service which will be conducted on Friday, January 12, at 12:30 p.m. in the Gleason Funeral Home. A calling hour from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30p.m. will precede the service in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Disability Services, 314 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY, 12208.
