Sheila Savage Obituary

Savage, Sheila Kenny ALBANY Sheila Mary Savage (nee Kenny), dearly beloved wife, mom, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend to all, aged 72 years, passed away on November 10, 2015. Christened Julia Mary Kenny, Sheila was born on July 3, 1943, in Oldcastle, County Meath, Ireland. She was the daughter of the late James Kenny (Hill of Tara, County Meath) & Elizabeth (Lily Fox) of Oldcastle. Sheila was the cherished wife of 48 years of Colonel Maurice M. Savage (Ret), U.S. Army, born in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. She was the adored mom of Sheila Savage Maguire, Kevin Savage (Kim), and her grandchildren Kathleen Maguire, Matthew, and Elizabeth "Ellie" Savage. Predeceased by her brother, Patrick (Patsy) and little sister, Mary Kenny. Survivors also include her brothers, Oliver "Ollie" Kenny, Tony Kenny, Seamus Kenny; and her sister, Angela Kenny, Ireland. Sheila is also survived by her extended Savage, Lawlor, Spicer, Foley and Griffin Families, and her best friend, Mrs. Mary Lawlor Seymour; many first cousins in the Fox and Farrelly Families; nieces and nephews in Ireland and England; and cousins on her husband's side in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. Sheila was a brave young immigrant, coming to America on her own at the age of 18. Always a hard worker, Sheila was employed at Leslie's Credit Bureau and the New York State Assembly. But her true loves in her life were her husband and her family, her home, and lovingly caring for her sick husband, Moss, in recent years. Sheila was a true country girl, always loving the land and gardening, she was a brilliant baker and she was well known for her famous scones throughout Albany, always sharing her special baskets and giving baking lessons. She was a steadfast and proud County Meath Woman. Her love of Ireland and her family showed through in everything she did, she loved music and Irish Step dancing. She was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) Mother's Association and a member of the Albany St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee for many years. All are invited to attend a wake Monday from 1 to 3 p.m., at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following the visitation at 3 p.m. Burial will take place on Tuesday, promptly at 12:30 p.m. at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern NY, 4 Pine West Plaza, Albany, NY 12205. Dear Sheila and family,
My heartfelt sympathy.
Here is a poem.
Love,
Mary Riegert

Remember Me
It is true I am not here in the physical sense anymore, but you have traces of me left in many familiar places:
You'll hear expressions that remind you of our conversations; You'll see beautiful things that remind you of our adventures together; Something will make you cry, and you'll remember a time when we shared tears and comforted each other and felt better. You'll laugh at something, and it will remind you of a time when we laughed together at a movie, or a card, or just a funny situation.
So, my friend, there will be times when it hurts to remember.
It's o.k. to cry, and you may not feel strong sometimes, but I know you have an inner strength. Rely on it and try to move ahead.
Know that you hold a special place in my heart, and that your presence added to my life.
Use these memories to help you when things get you down and you need an extra smile.
When you do or see the things we enjoyed together, know that I am still there in your heart and in your memory.
Remember the happiness we shared.
Until that day when we meet again, live your life to the fullest as I did, and share yourself with others.
So, my treasured friend, until we meet again remember me.

Jim and I would like to send our heartfelt sympathies to our entire family. I knew Shelia through Mo Savage (he was my boss at DMNA) and I became aware of the special lady she was. Gracious, loving and always had a smile for everyone. The last time I saw her and Mo was at the 8th grade graduation at St. Pius and they looked well. Many years have passed, but she will always be remembered in our hearts.

Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for everyone who knew Sheila. My mother was a very very close friend and myself and my sisters grew up knowing Sheila. She was my sisters godmother and a wonderful one she was. Our families used to have fun at the Hibernian Hall back when it was still on Central Ave. So many memories.
My deepest sympathies to her wonderful family. She was a wonderful, giving person, full of love for her friends and family. She will be greatly missed
