Oddy, Theresa Filomenia ALBANY Theresa Filomenia (Carbo) Oddy, age 93, entered eternal life Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Carmel Gardens Memory Unit, Teresian House where she was a resident for six years. Our family experienced the expertise and devotion of Carmel Gardens staff in caring for our mother. The patience and compassion needed to care for motor and memory deficit patients is immense. They demonstrated a level of expertise daily creating a safe nurturing environment. We are indebted to these medical professionals who have the gifts and talents and stamina to care for our affected Loved ones. You have our deepest gratitude and admiration. Alzheimer's is truly the long slow goodbye and you were there at every step. You are our heroes, thank you! Mom was born on September 30, 1924, in Caserta, Italy, to the late Filomena DiMaio and the late Francesco Carbo, Theresa was the loving wife of the late James B. Oddy for 54 years. She was preceded in death by her brothers, August, John, and Salvatore Carbo; and sisters, Mary Sgroi and Anna Ellers. Theresa is survived by her daughters, Joyce Lavery (Warren) of Colonie and Kathleen Snyder (Ray) of South Carolina; son, James E. Oddy (Debbie) of Selkirk; brothers, Rudolph Carbo (Bernadette) and Edward Carbo (Barbara); grandchildren, Mark Lavery (Sharon) of Woodlands, Texas, Brian Lavery (Lisa) of Montclair, N.J., Craig Snyder (Erin) of Charlotte, N.C., Jaclyn Quinley (Andrew) of Stanley, N.C., Laura Oddy of Albany, and Eric Oddy of Selkirk; six great-grandchildren, Alexander and Anjolee Lavery, Maria and Anna Snyder and Abagail and Julia Quinley, and many loved and cherished nieces, nephews, in-laws, family and friends. Our mother was a proud woman who believed there was no obstacle in life that could not be managed. She was diagnosed at age 72 with dementia of an Alzheimer's type. Mom's spirit and character were strong, her determination fierce in making life better for her family. She was a force unto herself, she did not give into negative forces in her life. Mom persevered through her illness with grace, pride, compassion and gratitude. Funeral services on Wednesday, September 12, at 11 a.m. in Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville where her funeral Mass will be celebrated.
