Thomas Gehrig Obituary
Gehrig, Thomas POMONA, Calif. Thomas A. Gehrig, 59, of Pomona, died peacefully in his sleep on August 2, 2018, in Corinth. Tom, also known as Henry or Hankster, was born on September 19, 1958, in Madison, Wis. When he was about four, his family moved to Wynantskill, where he resided until he headed out West. He attended Troy High School and Russell Sage College. He lived in several locations until he finally settled in Southern California. He worked for the Los Angeles school district for a number of years, and was a sales and parts manager for street sweeping companies. Tom's biggest and most important job, however, was taking care of his extended family and friends. He had a huge heart and was always taking care of someone in need. In the end, all we take with us is our good deeds and love that we showed others. His untimely death will leave a void in all of those whose lives he touched. Tom was a Roman Catholic who thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a big NASCAR fan and this past Spring, he had the thrill of meeting Mario Andretti! He enjoyed traveling and visited many popular landmarks throughout the states. Thomas is survived by his mother, Jeanne Gehrig and sister, Mary Beth Mathews, both of Poughkeepsie; brother, Joseph Gehrig (Jane Reardon) of Winchester, Mass.; and sister, Rachel Cipollo (John) of Frederick, Md.; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Robert F. Gehrig; and his brother-in-law, Frederick R. Mathews. He is also survived by many close friends, including his extended families in California and his life-long friend, Mary McDermott, who treated him like royalty whenever he was in town! Visitation will be on Friday, August 10, from 4-7 p.m. at the Wynantskill Funeral Home, 294 Whiteview Rd., Wynantskill. His funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, in St. Jude the Apostle Church, 43 Brookside Ave., Wynantskill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Smith House, P.O. Box 5205, Poughkeepsie, NY, 12601, (845) 452-7155. Please visit www.mcloughlinmason.com.
