Connelly, William J. GANSEVOORT William J. Connelly, 61, formerly of Latham and Green Island, died suddenly on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the Glens Falls Hospital after being stricken ill at his home. Bill was raised in Green Island, son of the late Peter and Dorothy Greeley Connelly, and had resided in Latham for 38 years before moving to Gansevoort in August of 2011. He was a graduate of Siena College and had been employed by the former GE Silicones, now Momentive Performance Materials, in Waterford as an environmental compliance technician since 1973. Bill was an accomplished vocalist and musician and was the founding member of St. James Gate, a popular local Irish band. He is the beloved husband of 39 years of Donna Smith Connelly; devoted father of Christopher Connelly of Latham and Daniel Connelly of Albany; and brother of Colleen (Terrence) Roche and Shawn (Stephanie) Connelly. He is also survived by his best buddies, Jake and Grayce. Calling hours will be held at the McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Ave. in Green Island on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Those attending are asked to meet at the entrance of the cemetery at 9:45 a.m. Due to floral limitations at the cemetery, the family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Irish American Heritage Museum, 991 Broadway, Albany, NY 12204 in memory of William J. Connelly.

We have been so blessed to have met the Connelly family only one short year ago when we purchased their home in Latham. Our connection with them has been instant and like family. Bill could talk about anything and was so genuine. Very intelligent and talented. It turns out that Donna and Bill were friends of my grandparents back in the day and my granfather told me some stories about him painting a car or some of his...just one of his many talents. Its such a small world and I'm so glad to have been able to have them come into our lives. I'm so surprised by this news as I was just having lunch with him and Donna at our new (thier old) home 2 weeks before. It's comforting to know he got a chance to come back and visit it completed. We had plans for us to come visit them in their new home in my text messages with him. He said "see ya soon." I'm sorry that I won't see him again until I join him with the Lord above. Connelly family, please stay in touch.

I was honored to work with Bill in our research on the 169th Regiment N.Y. Infantry during the Civil War. His friendship, good cheer, and expertise as a historian will truly be missed. And his deep patriotism will always be remembered.

My condolences go out to his family.

I knew and respected Bill as a real professional at the Waterford GE/Momentive site and as a fine musician and performer. It was always fun to talk music and chemistry with Bill Connelly. All who knew him will be sad to hear of his untimely passing, and he will be sorely missed.

Donna, Chris and Dan, I am so sorry for your loss, so unexpected. I was privileged to work with Bill these past seven years, and I always enjoyed hearing about his many, diverse interests. Both Bob and I loved hearing the band! I was impressed too with how well he cared for his own parents in their final years.
