Dwyer, William J. COLONIE William J. Dwyer, 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2018, with his family by his side. Born on March 3, 1933, in Kingston, he was a loving father, brother, grandfather and friend. A graduate of Siena College and Albany Law School, he then served as a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Bill worked as a litigator for 13 years with the law firm of Cook, Tucker and Dwyer in Kingston. He then assumed the roles of senior attorney for the N.Y.S. Department of Transportation and general counsel for the N.Y.S. Public Transportation Safety Board which he held for 25 years. Bill spent the last eight years volunteering at the Teresian House, his home away from home. In his younger years, he was an avid boater, sailing from New York to Boston, north through the St. Lawrence Seaway and as far south as Norfolk, Va. Bill loved his time with his family and friends, and enjoying history, military modeling, architectural drawing, debating politics, traveling, watching his grandson play baseball, celebrating St. Patrick's Day and Mardi Gras, and eating outlandish foods. Bill was preceded in death by the love of his life, June Dwyer; and his parents, William and Mary Dwyer. He is survived by his son, William T. Dwyer; daughter, Genevieve Rainsberg, her husband Telly and their children Vaughn and Scarlett; as well as his siblings, Mary Ann (Frank) Danahy, Richard (Tess) Dwyer, Marjorie (Howard) Whitaker, John (Terri) Dwyer, Thomas Koeppen, Patty and Doug Bazley; many nieces and nephews along with many dear friends and neighbors. We offer a very special thanks to his dear friends at the Teresian House. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday January 11, in the Teresian House Chapel, 200 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
