VOORHEESVILLE Lucy Akelewicz Roche, 78, of North Main St., died Friday, January 16, 2004 at her home. Born in Weedsport, N.Y., Lucy was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Josephine Dec Akelewicz. She had lived in Voorheesville for the past 62 years. She worked for 29 years as a rural carrier for the Voorheesville Post Office. She was a member and first president of the Voorheesville American Legion Auxiliary. Also, she was chaplain and secretary of the auxiliary for many years and a member of the 8/40. She was a past county president of the American Legion Auxiliary and president of the Polish Community Center. Wife of the late William J. Roche; she was mother of Kathleen (Marc) Perlman of Auburn, Maine, Virginia O'Connor of Glenmont, Timothy Roche of Glenmont, Christopher Roche of Voorheesville, Nancy A. Murtha of Green Island and Matthew J. Roche of Green Island; sister of the late Adam Richard Akelewicz; and grandmother of Michael and Stefanie Roche, David Perlman and George, Carrie and William Murtha. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 o'clock Tuesday morning at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Hutton St. and Fifth Ave., Troy. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. Calling hours will be in the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Voorheesville on Monday from 5-8 p.m. For those who wish, memorial contributions to the Voorheesville American Legion would be appreciated.
