Chalk, Samuel J. ELMIRA Samuel J. Chalk, Jr., 42, formerly of Ravena, died suddenly Friday, January 4, 2008. Sam was a 1983 graduate of R-C-S High School and in 1986 he graduated from Morrisville College. Sam was a chef and had worked for various restaurants. Survivors include his children, Patrick and Sandra Chalk and their mother Patty, all of Elmira; stepdaughter, Mary Catherine Glover of Elmira; father, Samuel J. Chalk, Sr. and his wife Marianne of Va.; sisters, Sharon (Robert) Locke of Albany and Stephanie Betor of Selkirk; step-sister, Danielle Phillips of Va.; grandmother, Catherine Chalk of Elmira; grandfather, Melvin (Kate) Hotaling of Phoenix, N.Y.; nephew and niece, Robert Jr. and Samantha Betor. Sam was predeceased by his mother, Sandra Chalk, grandmother, Jean Albright and grandfather, Peter Chalk. A Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, at St. Patrick's Church, Ravena. Burial will follow in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore. Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Sam may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Albany Office, 7 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205.
