Travis, Edwin B. RAVENA Edwin B. "Soapy" Travis, 79, passed away suddenly Thursday, January 24, 2008. Ed, or Soapy as he was known, lived in Ravena all his life. He was the son of the late George and Dorothea Travis. Soapy was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during World War II and the Korean War. In 1980, he retired after many years of service as a welder for the former NY Central Railroad and Conrail in Selkirk. Ed was a member of the Ravena Hose Co. and Rescue Squad and the Ravena Fish & Game Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and NASCAR. Survivors include his wife Maggie Travis of Ravena; nephews, Wayne and Keith "Buz" Travis and many other nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his brother, George and his wife Kay Travis and his nephew, Bruce Travis. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 28 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. Burial will follow in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday prior to the service starting at 10 a.m. Contributions in memory of Edwin may be made to the Ravena Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 144, Ravena, NY 12143.
