Benson, Albert J. RAVENA Albert J. Benson, 90, entered eternal life on Friday, June 20, 2008. Albert was born and lived all his life in Ravena. He was the son of the late Norton and Emma Benson. Albert retired after 30 years of service with the Internal Revenue Service. He was a World War II Army veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart medal for wounds received in the Rome-Arno campaign. Albert was a honorary life member of the Ravena Knights of Columbus. Albert was predeceased by his wife Elsa Myers Benson. Survivors include his children, Craig (Joan) Benson of Ohio and Christine Benson of Ravena; grandchildren, Christiane Benson of Ohio; great-granddaughter, Katlin Benson. Albert was predeceased by his grandson, Jonathan Benson and half brothers, Peter and Emil Sorell. Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 1 at St. Patrick's Church, Ravena. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Coeymans. Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Monday 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of Albert may be made to St. Patrick's Church, 21 Main St., Ravena, NY 12143.
