RAVENA Gertrude E. Slater, 88, died Monday, July 14, 2003 at The Hospice Inn in St. Peter's Hospital. Gertrude was born in South Westerlo and had lived in Ravena most of her life. She was a graduate of Ravena High School. In 1968, she retired after eight years of service at Woolworth's in Delmar. She had been a member of Senior Projects of Ravena, Town of Coeymans Women's Democratic Club, and the Little Red School House. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women's Club. Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, George Slater and her parents, Irving and Bertha Burhans Biechman. Survivors include her children, Ruth Griffin and her husband Donald of Ravena and David Slater and his wife Carol of Ravena; brother, Sanford Biechman; sister, Bernice Biers; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sister, Erma Palmer and brothers, John and Clinton Biechman. Funeral services will be held 11:00 Thursday morning July 17, 2003 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Coeymans Hollow. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore. Contributions in memory of Gertrude may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Rte. 143, Coeymans Hollow, NY 12046 or to Senior Projects of Ravena, P.O. Box 142, Ravena, NY 12143.
