RAVENA Luther Shorty Williams, 89, died Friday, June 10, 2005 at the Stratton VA Medical Center. Luther received the Purple Heart for his service during World War II in the US Army. He was a printer working for several firms in the area. Shorty was a member and past exalted ruler of the former Bethlehem Elks, a member of the Ravena VFW, past grand master of the Masons and a member of the Shriners. Survivors include his wife Anna M. Williams of Ravena; children, Luther A. Jr. (Martha) of Queens, N.Y. and Leanah Williams of Ravena; and several nieces and nephews. Shorty was predeceased by his brothers, John Bernard, Thomas and Frank Williams. Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 13 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. Burial will follow in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Contributions in memory of Luther may be made to the Congregational Christian Church, 175 Main St., Ravena, NY 12143 or the VFW Post 9594, 49 So. Clement Ave., Ravena, NY 12143.
