NEW BALTIMORE Chester E. Tompkins, 89, died Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at St. Peter's Hospital. Chester was born in Ravena and lived in the Ravena area most of his life. He was an Army veteran serving during World War II in the Army Infantry European Theater. He was an accountant for Parsons Child and Family Center in Albany for 20 years, retiring in 1981. Chet served as town justice for 12 years for the Town of New Baltimore. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Ravena. Chester was the husband of the late Genevieve Alukonis Tompkins. Survivors include his children, Allan (Kathleen) Tompkins of Michigan, Robert (Marian) Tompkins of Niskayuna, and Richard Tompkins of Cohoes; grandchildren, Kristen, Sarah and Allison Tompkins, Laura, Gregory and Joseph Tompkins, Steven and Kenneth Tompkins; daughter-in-law, Sandra Tompkins; and sister, Beatrice Fazio of Albany. Chet was predeceased by his son, Bruce C. Tompkins. Funeral services will be held 9:30 Saturday morning, November 22 at St. Patrick's Church, Ravena. Burial will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Friday from 4:30 to 7:30. Contributions in memory of Chester may be made to St. Patrick's Church, 21 Main St., Ravena, NY 12143.
