ALBANY Sunshine Sunny Mary Gardinier, 42, loving mother, companion and a friend to many, died Tuesday, September 19, 2006 in St. Peter's Hospital of a sudden illness that took her too soon from her young boys. Sunshine was born in Albany and a native of Ravena; she lived on North Allen Street in Albany. She had retired on disability after several years employment with New York State and devoted all of her time and energy to the education, upbringing and happiness of her sons, Phil, 14 and Tim, 11. Sunshine, a breast cancer survivor, lived up to her name with her easy, energetic and outgoing character. She suffered all her life from debilitating asthma but fought the disease with a passion and longing to stay around long enough to see her children mature. I think that she is happier now that her body isn't holding her down with all the medicine and pains she had to deal with, said her son Phillip. She is now free and we can't be sad for ourselves. Sunny was a graduate of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School and had attended community college. She was a member of the Albany Elks Lodge 49. Survivors include her husband Bob Gardinier; sons, Phillip and Tim Gardinier, all of Albany; parents, Mary and John Scaglione of West Coxsackie; mother and father-in-law, Burrell and Donna Gardinier of Little Falls, N.Y.; siblings, Patty and John Webb, Dorothy Robertson, Anne and Michael Currey, Irene Perezzella, Carol and William Lyman-Schreiweis and Arthur and Lenda Lyman; nieces and nephews, Diane, Christopher and James Currey, Glynis Lyman, Bryanna and William Lyman-Schreiweis, Laura and Lance Robertson, Rosemary and Julie Webb and Marjorie Perezzella. Sunshine was predeceased by her father, Arthur Lyman. Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Saturday, September 23 from 9 to 11 a.m. Her funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Sunshine may be to an education fund for Phillip or Timothy Gardinier, c/o Bank of America, P.O. Box 100, Greenville, NY 12083.
