Stevens, Mitchell Jr. COEYMANS Mitchell Stevens Jr. departed from this life on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at 11:50 a.m. at the Stratton VA Medical Center, Albany. He was born in Coeymans on February 21, 1926. Mitchell was the son of the late Mitchell Stevens Sr. and Lena Anderson Stevens. Referred to as "Mick" for short, he attended Coeymans High School , at that time located in the former historical Acton Civill Academy Building. Football was his sport of choice before taking an early leave to work. Shortly after being baptized, Mitchell left to serve his country in the military in 1944. After three years of service, he returned home to live with his parents and resumed his hardworking laborer efforts in the railroad, mushroom (Frangella Bros.), and brick (Sutton Sudderly, Powell Minnock) Industries. Several years later, he wed Inez Brewer to a marriage lasting 50 years, celebrated on June 16, 2006. As a member of the Riverview Missionary Baptist Church, Coeymans, Mick served on the Usher Board, along with being a trustee until his illness. Mitchell "Mouse" Stevens, was a popular character in the Ravena-Coeymans area and will be missed. He leaves to mourn, his wife Inez; daughter, Lorie Robinson of Scotia-Glenville, Gary (Geri) M. Stevens of Schenectady; three grandsons, Darnell of Coeymans, Terrence of Kansas City, Mo. and Ryan Stevens of Niskayuna; brother, David Stevens of Albany; sisters, Shirley Walker of Whispering Pines, N.C. and Gertrude Stevens of Albany County Nursing Home; in addition to a host of nephews, nieces and cousins. Predeceased siblings include Edward, Catherine and Virginia "Virgie" Jackson. Respects can be paid on Saturday, November 4 at the Riverview Missionary Baptist Church, 1613 Riverview Dr., Coeymans, NY 12045, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Funeral services will immediately follow. Interment in Grove Cemetery, Coeymans. Contributions in memory of Mitchell may be made to the Riverview Missionary Baptist Church, 1613 Riverview Dr., Coeymans, NY 12045.
