Rafferty, Velma M. COEYMANS HOLLOW Velma "Val" Rafferty, 75, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2006 surrounded by her loving family. Val was born in Coeymans Hollow on July 27, 1931 to the late Burton and Anna Mae (Stott) Mack. As a child, she attended the one-room Little Red Schoolhouse, which is now a museum in Coeymans Hollow. She was a graduate of Philip Schuyler High School. On September 13, 1952, she married Edward Rafferty Jr. and together they created a loving family with their three daughters and grandchildren. Val had many varied interests including gardening, painting, ceramics, sewing and working on craft projects with her grandchildren. She volunteered her time at St. Peter's Hospital. Val was a strong woman who demonstrated courage and determination while facing several illnesses over the past few years. She was an inspiration to her family and friends and will be deeply missed. However, she set an example of how to live and face tough times without giving up and we will strive to follow this example. Val is survived by her loving husband and devoted caregiver, Ed; her adoring daughters, Kathryn Rafferty of Delmar, Pamela Rafferty and Kimberly Myers, both of Coeymans Hollow; cherished grandchildren, Amanda and Justin Myers and Briana Borger; and a beloved sister, Linda (Jack) McNeary of Saratoga Springs. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her twin brother, Willis Mack, and stepfather, Andrew Pinkerton. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, November 13 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. Burial will follow in Coeymans Hollow Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany NY 12205 or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
