Kern, George E. SELKIRK George E. Kern, 75, entered eternal life peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 28, 2006. George was born in Jersey City, N.J. on May 13, 1931, son of the late George Kern and Johanna and Frank DeAngelis. He moved to Greene County in the early 70s. George served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a member of the VFW Post 7229. In 1987, he retired from the NYS Department of Transportation after many years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife Helen E. Kern; two daughters, Denise Haxton and her husband Charles and children, John, Lauren and Marcus and Nancy Kern-Mayone and her husband Mark; sons, George Kern and his son, Trevor, Donald Kern his wife Michelle and children, Donald, Kacey and Brianna, Richard Kern his wife Mary and children, Kelly, Richard, Shannon and Michael and Gary Kern his wife Susan and children, Nicole and Gary; daughter-in-law, Valerie and children, Jaime, Keith, Ashley, Briann and Jordan; great-grandchildren, Abby, Taylor, Madison and Carter; sister, Betty Connolly her husband Tim and sons Robert and Scott; many nieces, nephews; and friends. George was predeceased by his sons, Keith and Ronald Kern. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, December 1 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. Burial will follow in Winston Cemetery, E. Durham. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of George may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, Bethlehem Volunteer Ambulance or a charity of your choice.
