RAVENA Raymond J. Serls, 62, died suddenly Saturday, March 27, 2004 at his residence. Ray was born in Catskill and lived in Coxsackie and the Ravena-Coeymans area for many years. He was an Army veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. Raymond retired in 2002 after 33 years of service with CSX Railroad in Selkirk. He was an avid bowler and bowled in several leagues at the Ravena Lanes, was a member of the Wednesday Night Dart League at Jell E's, and an avid fisherman. Survivors include his mother, Charlotte Serls of Ravena; siblings, Judy (Ralph) Hotaling of W. Coxsackie, Mary Ann (Joseph) Noeth of Coxsackie, Lorraine Jordan of Ravena and Herbert Serls of R.I.; godson, James Noeth; several nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews; and dear friends, Joseph and Sandy Powetek. Ray was predeceased by his father, Herbert Serls, sister, Sharon Sanchez and niece, Katy Serls. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. Burial will take place at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday 4-8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Raymond may be made to the Ravena Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 144, Ravena, NY 12143.
