RAVENA Gerald W. Richardson, 86, died Thursday, August 26, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital. He was born in Alcove, son of the late George and Edna Vincent Richardson. He graduated from Ravena High School in 1939. In earlier years, he was a pitcher for the Alcove AC's baseball team, was one of the original little league managers in 1950, enjoyed bowling and all sports. Gerald was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater as a tech sergeant. For 22 years, he worked for the former N.Y. Central Railroad as a machinist, ten years for Herbert Hamlin as an electrician and 22 years for Ravena Coeymans Selkirk School as a mechanic. He retired in 1983. Gerald was a 54-year member of the Bethlehem Lodge #85 and a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Ravena. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Hazel R. Richardson; daughter, Betty Jane Millett LaPlante of Ravena; son, William and daughter-in-law, Sandra Richardson of Fla.; sisters, Selma LaBuda of Climax, Dorothy Ventura of Selkirk and Alice Smith of Delmar; grandsons, Stephen and Jonathan Millett; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Gerald was predeceased by his daughter, Doris Ann Richardson; grandson, David Millett; sister, Ada Briner; brothers, Leonard, Clifton, Ernest and Alfred Richardson. Funeral services will be held 11:00 Monday morning, August 30 at Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. Burial will follow in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Those who wish to remember Jerry can make a contribution to the Congregation Christian Church, 175 Main St., Ravena, NY 12143.
