COEYMANS Alfred Jim Edgar Roberts, September 8, 2004, after a brief illness, has left this life he enjoyed so much. Jim was born in 1935 and, despite the depression and World War II, remembered his childhood with great fondness. After graduating from Port Jervis High School in 1952, he served in the U.S. Air Force. The three years of duty in West Germany during the late 50s were especially good times. Upon his return, he attended college at the University of N.D. and graduated with a bachelor of arts in 1962. Once back in N.Y., he found work with Albany County and then the N.Y.S. Department of Social Services. In 1963, he met and married Charlotte Jane Reed, the love of his life, and began raising a family. Over the next 40 years, he worked in state government and spent his free time with his family and the neighborhood children, teaching a generation the intricacies of baseball and softball. When he retired after 30 years of service, he spent the remaining years of his life doing what he loved, hiking with his dog, attending local sporting events and regional theatre and, most of all, the Saratoga Flat Track. His kindness, generosity and irreverent sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. Special thanks to his dear companion, Lan Ying Fan. Jim was predeceased by his wife Charlotte Jane and survived by his brother, Henry Roberts; sisters, Helen Roberts-Grezka and Frances Lane; and his children, Kristine Valois and Kevin Roberts. Friends may call at the home of Jim at 9 Civil Ave., Coeymans on Sunday, September 12 starting at 2 p.m. for a time of remembrance. Contributions in memory of Jim may be made to the R-C-S Sports Association, c/o Roy Deyo, 7 Hunting Ridge, Ravena, NY 12143.
