PUNTA GORDA, Fla. Francis Nelson Babcock, 73, died Saturday, October 2, 2004 in Florida. Nelson was born in Albany, son of the late John M. and Margaret Babcock. He was raised in Ravena and had lived in Selkirk before moving to Fla. 10 years ago. Nelson was an Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Local 294 Teamsters. Nelson was a life member of the Ravena Hose Co. and Rescue Squad, a member of Delmar VFW Post 3185 and the Bethlehem Elks. He was also a member of the Punta Gorda American Legion Post 103, the Moose Lodge 1693 and the Eagles in Port Charlotte. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Babcock of Fla.; children, Kevin (Toni) Babcock of New Baltimore, Brian Babcock of Watervliet, Craig (Dori) Babcock of Mechanicville and Laura (Frank) Baird of Calif.; stepchildren, Nelson (Marcy) Crosier of Holly, N.Y., Bonnie (James) Banahan of Selkirk and Connie (Fabian) Mitchell of Schenectady; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason and Justin Babcock; step-grandchildren, Katlyn Munn, Giles Crosier, James and Colleen Banahan, Ricky Fink, Ian Mitchell and Niona Crosier; great-grandchildren, Justin Babcock Jr. and Hayley Crosier; and many nieces and nephews. Nelson was predeceased by his brothers, George M. and John M. Jr. Babcock and stepson, Keith Crosier. Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Thursday, October 14, 2004 from 5 to 8 p.m. Entombment will take place at the Saratoga National Cemetery, 11 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 2004. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Ravena Hose Co., 116 Main St., Ravena, NY 12143 would be appreciated.
