RAVENA Joseph C. Varcasia, 88, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at his residence. Joseph was born and lived all his life in Ravena, son of the late Guy and Louise Carrk Varcasia. He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II in the European Theatre. Joe retired after many years of service with the former NY Central Railroad. He was past commander of the VFW Post 9594 and a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Ravena. Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Fern Bennett Varcasia. Survivors include his daughter, Jeanne A. Varcasia Clifton of Menands; granddaughter, Holly Clifton of Menands; sisters, Mary Scalzo, Frances Giacomini and Millie Cornwell; and brothers, Patrick and Frank Varcasia. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7 at St. Patrick's Church, Ravena. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Coeymans. Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Joseph may be made to the VFW Post 9594, 49 So. Clement Ave, Ravena, NY 12143.
