Lewis, Dorothea (Stankevicus) WATERVLIET Dorothea S. Lewis entered eternal life Monday, October 1, 2007. Dorothea, born in Riverhead, Long Island in 1924, moved with her parents, Paul and Anna (Macksel) Stank-evicus, now deceased, to New Baltimore, N.Y. After graduating from Ravena High School, she worked for Central Hudson Power and Light Company while attending evening classes at Siena College. At that time, women could only attend evening classes at the all-male college. Dottie later joined Trans World Airlines as a hostess and completed her "hope" chest with purchases made in cities she visited during her cross-country journeys. In 1947, in a ceremony at St. Patrick's Church (Ravena), Dottie married Charles A. Lewis III, now deceased. Mrs. Lewis retired from the Times Union where she worked as a secretary for 17 years. After she retired, Dottie lived in western N.C. where she volunteered for the Good Shepherd Home agency, driving elderly people to medical appointments in Asheville and in Atlanta, Ga. For health reasons, in 1993, Dottie returned to the Capital District area to be near her family. Dorothea was a communicant of Our Lady of Assumption in Latham, N.Y. in her final years. Dottie is survived by her children, Charles (Charlie) Lewis IV of Jakarta and Bali, Indonesia, Paul and Kimberly Lewis of Macungie, Pa., Kathleen (Lewis-Harris) and Herman Valente of Latham, N.Y., Patricia Jane (Lewis-Weisenburn) Jackson of Cordova, Tenn. and Gregory Lewis of Niskayuna, N.Y. Dottie's grandchildren include Charles (Chuck) Lewis V, Jeffrey Lewis, Asa (and Rita) Lewis; Jamie (Weisenburn) Allbee, Erik Weisenburn, April (Weisenburn) Pope, Jill (Harris) Byron, Laura Harris, Jennifer Lewis, Chelsea Valente, Amy Lewis and Gregory Lewis. Grandmom Dottie also enjoyed her 13 great-grand-children. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, October 8 at St. Patrick's Church, Ravena. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Coeymans. Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
